This collection was inspired by solitary weekly walks during Covid near a beautiful pasture full of sheep. These creatures would graze undisturbed, moving together, peacefully being one with the earth. In high contrast, rather than moving as one the world divided into opposing factions. Each group accusing the other of being "sheep" either blindly following the government or the conspiracy theorists. I used painting to work through this turmoil. In my early paintings of sheep the work is painted in oil with deep shadows similar to the high chiaroscuro paintings of old. As we move away from Covid, the work becomes increasingly light in nature and value. Rather than depicting solitary animals, the flock is back together.
